Meet Three Board of Governors Members, Friends of the A.M. Bracken Library (6/21/2005)
Friends of the Alexander M. Bracken Library's Board of Governors are dedicated persons who help establish goals and coordinate the functions of the Friends. The Board provides for communication with the Friends membership and supports the Friends organization through their time, guidance, and commitment. Introducing three Board of Governors Members:

Larry Campbell worked at Westinghouse ABB for 35 years. He was manager of design methods where engineers designed, programmed, and managed numerical control for the factory. Today Larry combines his hobby of model trains with part-time employment at Overland Models, an importer of brass model trains. He graduated from Ball State with a bachelor's degree and a master's degree in industrial technology and earth science. Larry enjoys history and genealogy. He thanks his late friend Bill Barnett, the former Director of Library Business Services, for getting him interested in local history and archives. From that friendship, Larry became involved with the advisory board for the Center for Middletown Studies. He and his wife, Nancy, have two sons.

Nancy Carlson is an Associate Professor at Ball State and Chair of the Telecommunications Department. She teaches courses in the Sales and Promotion Option and is a video producer on the side. Nancy's creative endeavors include Physics at the Indy 500, an interactive video at The Children's Museum in Indianapolis; Gene Stratton-Porter: Voice of the Limberlost, a documentary for public television; Indiana Outdoors, a TV series about the natural beauty and recreational opportunities in Indiana; Ed Ball's Century, a documentary on the life of Edmund F. Ball, and Catalyst, a documentary on the public art sculpture for Minnetrista Center. Nancy's next project is a documentary on the six "little houses" of author Laura Ingalls Wilder. In 2000, Nancy was chosen as a Fellow at the Virginia B. Ball Center for Creative Inquiry. She met John Straw and Nancy Turner, the former Archives and Special Collections director, while compiling research for the documentaries. "I am very grateful for the tremendous help I received by those in Archives and Special Collections," she said. Nancy is married to Muncie journalist John Carlson and is the mother of two college students.

Dottie Danner, co-owner of Danners' Books, has found a perfect fit with her interests and career after retirement. Dottie's daughter, Susan, bought a book store 10 years ago just as Dottie was retiring as Executive Director of the YWCA in Muncie. She and her husband became involved with the bookstore. Dottie enjoys fiction, historical fiction and mysteries. She most enjoys the "people" aspect of the bookstore. "People have been my life for many years and I enjoy having access to all of the books and the knowledge of the book industry," she said. Dottie graduated from Stevens College for Women in Columbia, Missouri. Both of the Danners' daughters graduated from Ball State.
